Buck i figured i'd open a new thread for this one. Although through the years it achieved recognition as the Premiere Jug Head (our street slang for Harness Racing) .The Meadowlands was a happening venue in the evenings for Thoroughbreds. I loved their Young America series as well as the runnings of The Meadowlands Cup. Did you go there frequently when you lived in the NY Area. In the fall and winter,was almost a 2nd home on Friday and Saturday nites spiced in with some weekdays(LOL)

Saturday at the Meadowlands, the first ever Hambletonian Maturity for 4 year olds. A mile and an eight on the Trot, 14 horse field going for $484k.

Probably spreading out too large here, but 1,3,7,8 w 4,7,8 w 4,5,7,8,9 w 1,3,4,6 in the P4. Hopefully not too chalky, then it might work.

Here is an interesting idea to get fans to the races. Jeff Gural has purchased a share of the top pacing two yr old Captain Treacherous and fans that come to the track on successive Saturdays for a month can put their names in for a chance to win a percentage of the horse's winnings. Interesting idea

Jeff Gural is making major changes in the stakes schedule at the Meadowlands. He is de-emphasizing two year old stakes races and is concentrating on several stakes races for aged trotters and pacers. It is his view that racing must keep top horses on the track in order to increase the fan base and interest in racing. It should also be noted that he has changed the eligibility for progeny of sires for the Hambletonian, harness racing's Kentucky Derby, but refusing o allow any horse sired by a three yr old to compete in the Hambletonian. We in thoroughbred circles talk about increasing stakes for older horses but do little about it. Here is someone who isn't just talking about it, but actually acting on it.
