Prime Code, 2yo colt o/o Misty American x Quiet American, and Calumet homebred, was saddled by Steve Asmussen on debut in an MSW in the 3rd at Remington today, 9/23/21, going 6 1/2f on the dirt, finishing 6th of 9. Prime Code broke well as the favorite from the outside, with the first flight, soon settling back with the second flight as he moved in toward the rail from the outside. He showed agility, accelerating into the turn, briefly, then seemed to run out of gas, with the half run in 46chg, and galloped out the race. Prime Code is scopey, built like nothing but a router, with a broader chest and beam than we generally see in the youngsters from UBS mares. Looks to have that nice, straight front end we expect. He should improve with strengthening and time to grow into his big frame and long legs, and more wind.
Can't wait to see her in the Hall of Fame!
Here's wishing the horse with the coolest name in the race and his Hall of Fame stable pony finally bring their G1 home on Saturday.
Tinsel, 2yo filly o/o Morethanjusthello x More Than Ready, debuted in an MSW in the 4th at Churchill Downs today, 9/23/21, going 6 1/2f on the dirt, finishing 7th of 10. She broke a half beat behind the quickest, then showed good early speed, positioning herself on the inside of the second flight. She ran with good extension and head carriage in that position for just about the first quarter, then it appeared her head went up somewhat, her stride shortened and her cadence slowed. She backed up, losing several positions. Tinsel ran evenly on the rail for the rest of the race in about the same position as she finished. It looks from the fact she’s had a handful of 5f workouts that she was fit to run 6f, but perhaps not quarters at 11 1/5. Because of the early timing, degree and suddenness to which her running posture changed, I am inclined to think that either she took kickback for the first time or she encountered some fitness issue. We’ll see. Otherwise, a reasonably good first experience.
Sad to see you go.
Baffert's hearing has been postponed to 10/11 (Vitali's hearing to 10/13), and him and the NYRA will meet in the U.S. District Court on the 5th. so there's a chance the hearing will not happen at all (as that's what they will be discussing on the 5th).
