Ted E. Durcan

Frankie Dettori is considered Godolphin's #1 jockey, and always gets choice of which mount he wants to ride if Godolphin has more than one runner in the race. Ted Durcan does a lot of riding also for Godolphin, and is, IMO, their most underrated jockey. Because often it goes Dettori, then Ahmed Ajtebi, then Ted Durcan. One of Godolphin's top colt's, Cutlass Bay, had been undefeated in France under trainer Andre Fabre and ridden by Maxime Guyone. Cutlass Bay had won the 09' Prix Greffluhe, beating Cavalryman. Then won the 2010 G2 Prix d' Harcourt and the G1 Prix Ganay. When Cutlass Bay was sold to Godolphin, and his training taken over by Saeed Bin Surror, Ahmed Ajtebi was the first jockey to ride him. He finished 5th in the Tattersalls Gold Cup at Curragh to Fame and Glory. Then, Godolphin entered both Cutlass Bay and Cavalryman in the Juddmonte International Stakes. Dettori rode Cavalryman. This time, Kieren Fallon rode Cutlass Bay. While Cavalryman finished a respectable 4th. Cutlass Bay faltered even worse under Fallon. Finishing 7th at York. Most recently, Cutlass Bay was sent to Turkey to race in the G2 Anatolia Trophy on poly-track for the first time. This time, Godolphin used Ted Durcan as the jockey on Cutlass Bay. He finished 2nd in the race. Just headed at the wire. But he ran like the best horse in the race throughout. Ted Durcan brought out Cutlass Bay's best effort for Godolphin since back when Maxime Guyone had ridden him in France. Durcan is really a class jockey. In the 2009 Ladbrokes St Leger. Frankie Dettori chose the mount on Kite Wood. Ted Durcan took the mount on Mastery. Mastery ended up outrunning his better fancied stablemate with Ted Durcan aboard to win the St Leger.
