What the Horse Racing Nation is talking about...

Probably not HOF material, but still a good career overall. 11-8-2-1. Never out of the money. 2 G1s, 6 graded stakes. I'm sure his owners will take it.
Reeves McGaughey, son of "Shug" McGaughey, wins first graded stakes with Bees and Honey in the G3 Comely. Read More
  • Midnight Bisou via Disqus · Great run and win by Bees and Honey! Hopefully McGaughey can follow in his father's footsteps. I love Shug's old-school training method! · 1 hour ago
It's going to be until 2022 until Midnight Bourbon gets a chance to win a G1 race. Today he was outclassed by two older males- nothing to be ashamed of. Midnight Bourbon is a good horse, but he just isn't at that top level just yet. With some improvement next year, I think he might have some good chances to get some actual victories in graded stakes races. A G2 or G3 win before another chance in a Grade 1 Stakes race also might help his overall career status.
Happy Saver has always been a talented racehorse. He just went through two races where he didn't perform as well as he was expected to. Today in the Clark he showed that he is still a top horse who could compete at the top level of competition. Hope to see him continue to improve (and race more) next year
Maxfield finally beat a good field. He fought hard for that victory. Sad to see Maxfield be retired though ... he is clearly talented and could have a lot more left to show. Nonetheless, as a stallion he ticks off many of the boxes. As a progeny of Street Sense, I hope he is able to continue that line for generations to come (and based on the natural talent he has, it is decently possible (given he doesn't die early))
  • Pebbles via Disqus · The form of the race on paper held up. Was glad to see Happy Saver get third. · 3 hours ago
Very talented animal, but man he didn't get Tiznow's heart.
What a way to go out buddy!!!

In his final career start, Maxfield gamely prevails in the G1 Clark at Churchill Downs. Read More

  • Truth Seeker via Disqus · Maxfield was never as good as his fanboys claimed he was early in his career but he was not as bad as his detractors thought he was at the end of his career....he was a very solid horse that always tried hard but he was never brilliant..... · 2 hours ago
Nice run from him seems like hes rounding back into form and with the retirement of a lot of the top horses including Maxfield who just beat him, he could be a nice older horse to watch of course his stablemate is on the top of that list (Life Is Good) and Todd per usual is loaded with talented horses.
a winner in his swan song nice job max
What a run big boy. Happy to see you go out a winner.
I feel sorry for Midnight Bourbon, the ride he was given seemed off but I don’t know what JR’s instructions were. This is a colt who could be very good but seems to find ways to lose.
  • Pebbles via Disqus · Still young. Rosario gave him a good ride. Some will say the rider switch was the difference. If he was a close second the case might be made, but 3rd, no way. · 3 hours ago
I say over and over again until you win a G1 you have something to prove. And over and over again it is proven that BSFs do not predict performance, they measure performance. Look forward to seeing Midnight Bourbon coming back. He deserves a nice rest. It has been a long year for him. 👍
What a fun race! Three excellent horses all up to battle in the stretch! Pleased to see Maxfield end his career with a win, he has been a very nice horse for a few years now. People know I am a Happy Saver fan, so I could not help but root for him down the stretch, but I like Maxfield so I am happy for him. Cannot be ashamed of the run by Happy Saver either, definitely was overlooked and ran well. As for MB, he will live to fight another day.
So happy he finished racing career with a win! Gorgeous colt and wish him the best moving forward.
Maxfield! He goes out a winner in the G1 Clark, a game victory. What a way to end his career!
  • Pebbles via Disqus · Well done. Always felt he had the edge. Glad he realized some of his potential. 👍 · 4 hours ago
  • slewcrew7778 via Disqus · I can see the ad now ... "perfect 5 for 5 at Churchill Downs". Carefully crafted breeding resume at it's finest. · 3 hours ago
Great bloodlines ... hope we see more from his youngsters.
I usually like Simon Bray, but he just noted on TVG that Midnight Bourbon is doing so well in the betting because of how well he finished in the Breeders Cup Classic which we all know he did not run in. The reason he is doing so well in the betting are Midnight Bourbon's past BSFs which are tops in this field and the fact that Maxfield has been vulnerable to speed up front in his last 2 starts, particularly with no one to press the pace.
I can’t believe I ever thought Twenty Twice was good…sigh
