I had expected a strong closing kick from "Hard Not to Like", but a new track record! Wow! She outdid my greatest expectations.
Frac Daddy will be tough, but beware of the longshots in this race. Enterprising and Key to Power are worth a look. I'm leaning toward Enterprising. He's had a nice refresher, a hard test in the American Stakes, and should be ready to get back to the form he showed in SoCal last year.
I'm expecting Work All Week to dominate this field coming down the stretch. He's a fine sprinter and Geroux does well judging what's left in the tank, and when to use it.
I watched Sing and Tell break her maiden at Golden Gate last year and I still wasn't impressed. But watching her recent victory in the Luther Burbank Stakes made a believer out of me. She came down the stretch with Halo Dolly closing and held her off for a 3/4 length victory. Impressive. She's 10-1 in the Solana Beach morning line and I'm jumping on it! Good luck Sing and Tell.
Good luck to Rousing Sermon. Can't let Cyclometer get too far ahead - hang off his flank and finish him in the last sixteenth!
I've been impressed with Monday's last two trips. She won them both with strong stretch runs. I'd like to see her move up a class and see how she does.
This accident happened near the 1/8th pole - right in front of the grandstand. Terrible! Mangalee lying on the track and Black Mango, standing, as brave as ever, waiting for his fate. #7 was DQ'ed. This was the second DQ for that horse. Two races before, the #7 (Blast The Cat), threw his jockey at the gate and lept over the rail. My thoughts are with Navin Mangalee and the brave Black Mango. I find it hard to get them out of my mind.
This was a great race - almost lost my voice. You could have thrown a blanket over the front four coming down the stretch. This race is what going to the track is all about.
I thouroughly enjoyed watching Semenya hold off Decoy coming down the stretch. Sporty Semenya went off at 21 to 1 - and brought home the bacon! I had her as my pre-race favorite, but cut back on my wager because I watched the odds go too high. Woops!
Can Jerry'shoneycarol catch Marks Minel? Then there's My Lil Shamrock driving on the back stretch and Isadaisybelle stalking in the far turn. This year's California Oaks is going to be a good one. A big plus for NorCal and Golden Gate Fields.
