Let's hope so, we could certainly use a stallion that does. But since he also has a lot of speed on his dam side I think he can sire both good sprinters and routers with the right mares
Lea is a very nice horse, but his last win came in January and I think he's lost a step or two since then. He's a very hard trying horse and don't get me wrong I really like him, but against the very best, as in the Whitney this year, he's just not competitive (anymore).
Yesterday was, IMO, a great example why the Dirt Mile shouldn't be a Breeders Cup race. The Met Mile usually draws a much classier and better field, for example this year the top 3 finishers are running today in the big races, while in the Dirt Mile you usually only have second tier 3 year olds and older horses and occasionally a horse like Liam's Map whose connections just want to make sure they can call him a Breeders Cup champion rather than competing on the big stage and lose. I personally don't think Liam's Map would have won the Classic, but really it's sad that most of today's connections think it's better not to lose than to win. Liam's Map running in the Dirt Mile was about the same as it would have been had Beholders connections opted for the Distaff. Another example are the last two years, where Goldencents, a quality sprinter, stretched out his speed over a mile against pretty weak fields for BC races, rather than running in the sprint against the real good horses.
So, looks like AP can go comfortably to the lead with Beholder and Smooth Roller stalking from the outside. Btw, where do you think Gleneagles will be positioned in the early going ?
Does anyone know where she is ? Is she still in training ? I haven't heard or seen anything about her since the Forward Gal
This horse just makes me happy.
5 G1s at 5 different tracks including the TC made AP HOTY for 2015 and deservedly so. Yeah Beholders performance was very impressive BUT it was against a weak field and even IF she wins the BCC over AP that would give her (assuming she wins the Zenyatta which she easily should) 4 G1s, and only 1 of them against a real strong field. I just see no way Beholder wins HOTY, 2015 is the year of our TC champion and I think he's really earned it.
Isn't it funny how at the start of each season everyone's like this is going to be such an amazing year there's so much potential with the 3 yo's and there are some strong handicap horses and by the end of the year we're lucky to have 1,2 of the real good horses left (that are still running at their top form by then). Can be really frustrating at times.
Very well said. I personally really hope he takes the Haskell/Travers route, but while the Haskell seems likely at this point I don't know if they plan to go to the Travers or Pacific Classic afterwards. I think the only horse to ever win all four ( TC + Travers ) was Whirlaway, so that would be another great accomplishment. But anyway, I'm just happy if he even races a few more times before being retired.
I agree with the new jockey, but doubt he will get one
