An update for readers: I finally got a response from one of the legislators this letter was sent to, Lt. Governor Dan Patrick. Unfortunately, it was a generic response that did not address a single thing I mentioned. Clearly he did not read, or had no interest in, what I wrote. I'm not surprised by this, but also not discouraged. I will keep fighting for this issue, and I encourage you all - whether you're a Texan or not - to write these legislators. Let your voice be heard.

I've always thought that racing needs a national commission - for states that face these sort of issues like Texas and Illinois, for medication rules, the list goes on and on.
