Jockey's have to be politicians of sorts. I pay little attention to their assessments of horses they've mounted. They have to play the game and try not to offend anyone because they need to make a living. VE could've understandably said Phaorah was the greatest he's ever ridden but would've risked offending other owners and trainers with fragile egos. The results say it all and when he retires he'll be far more candid,
Affirmed had Alydar and Secretariat had Sham. American Pharoah had no solid rival to push him. That's not his fault. Everyone talks about how Pharoah always has his way and pace. Have we forgotten the Derby? That was a tough race for him. So tough VE went to the whip a reported +30X. Down the home stretch Firing Line forced him wide. He was panicked right before the race. If any race showed his mettle, it was the Derby. I believe exhaustion and the element of surprise got him at the Travers. This is a GREAT horse. Not a good one but a GREAT one. Leave it at that and let's hope next year's crop can keep up the momentum. The sport needs it but damn Pharoah is a tough act to follow.
Well said. Who can argue with any of that?
No argument from me with that.
Lmaoooooooooooooo!
This has to be the most underrated horse in the race. Guaranteed to hit the board. Well at least I'd be SHOCKED if he didn't. Other than AP the only horse I see getting in front of him is Keen Ice.
First AP got a break when Liam's Map bowed out of the classic. Now he gets a break because Beholder isn't running. Just stop it already. AP is HOY and is understandably the favorite to win the classic in the same year he won the TC. Times, fractions, whatever. It took 37 years to win a TC for a reason. Stop looking for reasons to discredit the horse. Is he the greatest ever? No. But he's the best to come down the pike in a long time. Enjoy the show. Might be another 37yrs before you witness it again. I got Keen Ice and Honor Code rounding out my tri in any order with Frosted in 4th.
A whole lot? That field is practically and all star line up. I honestly didn't even have her in my Super.
I'm with you Doug. Pharoah runs away with this. I think I'm going to regret not going this year. I wasn't excited about Kentucky. Especially Lexington. The hotels suck and they over charge.
I don't think with his style the post matters much. He's coming from the back no matter where he posts. He's truly an amazing animal. Great pedigree and beautiful horse. I'm just uncomfortable with deep closers. I have him placing or possibly showing if he runs out of track.
