Saturday's 11th race (5:25pm ET) from Tampa Bay Downs is the Grade 2 Tampa Bay Derby for 3-year-olds traveling a mile and a sixteenth on the main track.

#9 Hy Kodiak Warrior (10-1) should be finishing at a price. He earned solid Late Pace Ratings in his last three at the Gulf and was not disgraced running 3rd to Commissioner & Top Billing at 9f Jan. 3. He adds lasix and is firing Calder bullets for this.

#5 Conquest Titan (7-2) could not match strides with Cairo Prince in the Holy Bull but he did circle the field and outfinish subsequent Risen Star hero Intense Holiday. This is not a strong race on paper and he should be competitive from off the pace.

#2 Surfing U S A (3-1) was racing with the Gulfstream bias when he set moderate fractions and was run down by Top Billing at this trip off a layoff Jan. 25. He faces other speed, has distance/class issues to answer, and won't offer enough value on top in this spot.

#7 East Hall (10-1) rallied to finish a respectable 4th over speed friendly footing in the FOY. He was 3rd in the GP Derby Jan. 1 and was elevated to 1st in a race originally won by Hy Kodiak Warrior Nov. 24.

The local prep for this (Sam F. Davis) looked suspect and two from that heat (Harpoon, Noble Cornerstone) flopped in the Gotham last weekend. With that in mind, I will toss #3 Matador, #6 Vinceremos, and #8 Cousin Stephen
