Saturday's 8th race (3:38pm PT) from Santa Anita Park is the Grade I Santa Anita Derby for 3-year-olds traveling a mile and an eighth on the main track.

#7 Schoolofhardrocks (10-1) showed ability right out of the box in a flat mile maiden win at Del Mar last summer. He was suppoed to go in the G1 FrontRunner second time out but was shelved with an injury. He trained great for his G2 San Felipe return but it was asking too much off the shelf that day and he came up well short as expected. He continues to train well and should be much fitter this time around. He meets some tough rivals but has raw talent and plenty of upside. An expected forward move might land him in the top three at square odds.

#6 Candy Boy (9-5) is fresh and ready to deliver a quality effort for Sadler. A win is not vital but he needs a strong Trifecta finish to secure a spot in the Derby, something Cairo Prince was unable to do in the G1 Florida Derby last Saturday.

#5 California Chrome (6-5) romped in his last three outings and crushed his foes in the G2 San Felipe. Today's expected pace scenario seems to work in his favor but he only shows two four furlong works for this and he won't offer any value. I would not be surprised if he has one more big one in him, followed by a regression at Churchill.

#3 Hoppertunity (3-1) continues to improve for Baffert but has been busy this year and sure has racked up the travel miles recently. I like his running style versatility and Mike Smith rode him well in the G2 Rebel.

The Plays:

$10 to win #7

$7 Exacta 3-5-6/7 ($21)

$1 Trifecta 3-5-6/3-5-6/7 ($6)

.10 Superfecta 3-5-6/3-5-6/ALL/7 ($3)

School is my Derby horse and has been all this year. A win today and he'll win the Derby. If his turf pedigree stands out then take hi off the TC trail and point him to the Sercretariat.
I do not like either one of them. Just gonna mess around singling CC in Pick 4's and and P3's to close. Nothing big. Looking to catch a bomb in the 9th
I took Floyd over School
Do you want contender Floyd vs very doubtful School, Blabs?
Will never play when they open up colder than the North Pole. Also in all respect to Sullivan.Gryder does not exactly bring confidence to me. If this one was meant,a top rider would of rode. Looks to want distance
Sherman/Harty... hope someone talked you off your nag :D
don't look now,but in the 1rst at S.A.,the #2 went wire to wire. I guess the excuses will be in line if California Chrome wins. Drat those juiced up tracks.
better yet follow the great advice of Teddy and travel_Hawking. Far better is it to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure... than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy nor suffer much, because they live in a gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat.• 3 days ago

far too much can happen to a singularity between the start to the wire: traffic, bumping etc, that negates any single race telling ANYONE who is better. Took a series to show that the nimbleness of Sunday SIlence trummped the stamina of Easy Goer, NOT any single contest.
What part of insufficient data don’t you understand? I bet horrible Schoolofhardrocks beats contender Rprettyboyfloyd… are you game?
I never repeat NEVER look at a single horse and NEVER EVER before the odds offered are known. I bet the parimutuel not an individual
that did not transfer well but these two do not seem to belong in the same contest
compare PW--- 7 Schoolofhardrocks C3 off 28 days 3] 1 3/08/14 98 98 off 189 days 2] 2 8/31/13 105 105 to W--- 6 Candy Boy C3 off 56 days 3] 1 2/08/14 120 120 off 56 days 2] 2 12/14/13 116 116 2] 3 11/22/13 99 99 off 41 days 2] 4 10/12/13 97 97 off 42 days 2] 5 8/31/13 96 96 2] 6 8/17/13 92 92 see a bit of difference?
Agree about the quantum leap.
Want to go horse for horse, School vs floyd?
You have insufficient data t_v.
contenders: 5 California Chrome 3 Hoppertunity 6 Candy Boy 1 Rprettyboyfloyd Have no idea what evaluation system you are using but the quantum leap required (NOT impossible but very doubtful) it would take to get up against these would be enormous. Evaluated it on 4 separate system as your top, is their last uniformly...Really will pay if it is close, but my goodness this is a stretch......
