Vivo Per Lei needs clear sailing in Frankel

Sunday's 8th race (4:05pm PT) from Santa Anita Park is the G3 Robert Frankel Stakes for fillies and mares traveling a mile and an eighth on the turf course.

#7 Vivo Per Lei (6-1) could have won the G2 Goldikova with a different trip. Smith got to know her last time and won't get her in trouble again. The fresh mare makes her second start for Shirreffs and should make her presence felt throughout at a hint of a price.

#9 Tiz Flirtatious (2-1) ran great to land the place in the G1 Matriarch. The consistent filly has a nose for the wire and Bejarano has options with the versatile sort.

#3 Qaraaba (3-1) smartly captured her Optional Claiming US bow as the heavy favorite under today's pilot Leparoux. She must avoid a bounce and probably won't get as much pace help this time.

#2 Halo Dolly (5-2) is a 14-for-24 pro and she beat my top in the G2 Yellow Ribbon at Del Mar in September.

The Plays:

$16 to win #7

$6 Exacta Box 7-9 ($12)

$3 Exacta 7-9/2-3 ($12)

grass filtered says 8 2 7 1 as 9 will probably be too short of odds anyway
I'll go with class of the field, #9 - Tiz Flirtatious because she'll still have gas in the tank for the final 1/8 where Vivo Per Lei may come up a bit short. 9-7 COLD Exacta.
2,9,5,1
not a lot of confidence in this but 9 1 7 2
Horses with the right style for each distinct race pace match up beat those with higher numbers all the time. You look at the RACE, not the individuals....How do they impact on the PACE, the accumulated effort of the group under codntions that ONLY this group can create. THE GROUP, THE RACE, not indiviual performances that MAy or MAY NOT have been earned under very different pace pressures.
Contenders before scratches: #2 Halo Dolly, #9 Tiz Flirtatious, and #7 Vivo Per Lei ("I live for you" - In Italian). Although the #7 does have some merit and speed, the race sets up for the horse that has the best numbers, switching to the top rider and the right running style to take advantage of the pace scenario....#9 Tiz Flirtatious. Bet #9 to win. Exactas 9/all. Tri...9/2, 7, 5/all. Good luck!!!
The grass dried out that fast? Hmmm let's see
