Friday's 4th race (2:35pm PT) from Santa Anita Park is a $20,000 Maiden Claiming event for 3-year-olds and up dashing five and one-half furlongs on the main track.

#2 Green Team (7-2) broke slow from post 1 in an 11-horse field and ended up a respectable 6th at Del Mar Sept 5. The winner of that heat romped by more than six lengths so he was only three lengths out of the place in a better than appears debut. He hails from the profitable Heap barn and new pilot Talamo clicks with this outfit. The CA-bred gelding could go much better second time out.

#8 Chicsdigtheshark (7-2) ran an improved race off the Spawr claim at Fairplex Sept 8. The Digest clocker liked the looks of his local 5f move for this Oct 6 and he looms a pace factor at the very least.

#4 Turn on the Brites (3-1) stalked solid splits from post 10 and ended up 5th of 12 behind Bev N Bud, who came back to score again. Trainer Chew struggles with this type of layoff runner and is only 1-for-22 with second time starters. He might take too much win action.

#9 Dr Nip (4-1) receives a rider upgrade to Maldonado and would appreciate pace help.

The Plays:

$12 to win #2

$5 Exacta Box 2-8 ($10)

$2 Exacta 2-8/4-9 ($8)

To travel_vic...There is one truism is racing and often overlooked by horse players. The trainer is the most important person on the track and whatever trainers do, the ones on top do it best...check it out!!
  • icyhotboo · Probably about the best advice one could give anyone who handicaps. Also it flows from there as they select the jockeys who do best for them. The Pareto Principle 80/20 observation. · 888 days ago
Top choice Green Team ended up 3rd as the 9-5 fav. Chicsdigtheshark cruised on the front end and my suggested Exacta with Turn on the Brites came back $67.40 for a deuce.
Old D. Wayne....When he was getting the horses (before his chacter of runnig them into the ground was well established) got lots of good horses. Has this fellow's traing ability suddenly fallen off the plate, OR, has he now just the ordinary stable with which to train?
Would anyone, outside their track, know Cam Gambolotti if it weren't for Spend A Buck, old Buddy Delp if it weren't for Bid? or the ever famous Louie Roussel if it weren't for Risen Star?
Case in point: IT IS THE HORSE NOT THE TRAINER. Troy Taylor: good trainer but not in the top ten at Hastings since about 1965. Hooks up with Glen Todd (leading owner in Canada last year and winner of the Soverign Award for that) BINGO, the HORSES Todd brought in catapulted this competent trainer to tops in the standings now 5 years running. Did the competent trainer change or did the quality of horse, the ones who actually run, become different?
But they do not run, they have no record of running style. history of segemental velocities, etc. The correltaion of what they do is all theoretical, entirely as there is no conduit for it in the actual race.
Once the horse goes to the track, connections mean less than the little bit they meant before they let him walk out on the surface. Horse run, the people associated with thm watch that.
I see contenders as the #2, 8 and 9. The #2, as Jarrod above, has the best connections and is the class of the other two. Play #2 to win. Box #2,8,9 in exactas. Good luck!!!
A troubled line last out does not mean a good one today. Evaluate the horse on its record and just pass over a troubled line as irrelevant.
Contenders are: 4 Turn On the Brites 2 Green Team 9 Dr. Nip with favoritism on the 4....Price will be tough to get however.
