Sunday's 8th race (4:42pm CT) from Oaklawn Park is the redrawn Grade 3 Southwest Stakes for 3-year-olds traveling a mile and a sixteenth on the main track.

#1 Bayerd (5-1) was 2nd in the Smarty Jones and always runs his tactical race (6-3-2-1). Asmussen's consistent colt should have every chance from the rail and is a must use in the exotics.

#3 Hillbilly Royalty (7-2) is 2-for-2 and figures right there throughout based on his smart course-distance wire job Feb 6. He is a dangerous new pace face for profitable graded stakes trainer Von Hemel.

#6 Far Right (5-2) was my top in the Smarty Jones and he had that race handed to him after Mr. Z veered out in the lane. He figures to get involved late under Mike Smith.

#9 Kantune (12-1) has kicked his game up a couple of notches around two turns including an easy local maiden win Jan 23. Bridgmohan is a profitable 5-for-12 with Casse recently and he can be used in the exotics at a price.

#11 Mr. Z (3-1) won his debut and has not won in the graded ranks since (8-0-4-2). He has worked three times at Oaklawn since his Smarty Jones misadventure and it is very tough to use him in the top slot. Nakatani takes the call.

#5 Bold Conquest (10-1) was stakes placed as a juvenile. He has not been seen in 4+ months and might need the race but could be more mature.

#4 Private Prospect (12-1) was 4th in the Smarty Jones and rates a longshot look underneath.

The Plays:

$15 to win #1

$5 Exacta 3, 6 over 1 ($10)

.50 cent Trifecta 1, 3, 6 with 1, 3, 4, 5, 6, 9,11 with 1, 3, 6 ($15)

Great call Amino,i was on board with you. Far Right is drapped with the winners blanket. But your guy was at least 4 lengths better than any horse in the race. To bad Calvin thought the outside fence was the RAIL today. Either way, great call. The best horse always does not win every race.
The big boy 8 is a good-looking guy, amino. Was impressed with him and very impressed with the 6 Far Right. I do hate slop or mud for the stakes , but this was a good race. And what a good colt Mr Z is. He has not really had a break sine his debut , has he?
6 8 11, and ONE??
amino, I like your pick for the uniqueness, but also it was good once and ran against the best New York 2 yos last fall.
The Truth or Else
CLOSE race, very close with these contenders" 11 Mr. Z 6 Far Right 1 Bayerd 4 Private Prospect 7 Phenomenal Phoenix 1 6 11 4 7 cavalry charge late, SO someone IF they get an uncontested lead could steal here....Will see how the odds evolve and be back.
I'll go with his orprher horse bold conquest. I think he's the one to get the win
Yes. I like Bayerd. Like this Kantune. Think Mr.Z is not quite done yet, but almost. Far Right is good. 1,6,9,11.
Jarrod - I asked shut as well and I like reading your picks. What is your year to date win/loss record - in dollars? You should post it weekly so we all know your weekly progress. . Thanks Jon.
