Saturday's 14th race (6:48pm ET) from Gulfstream Park is the Grade 1 Florida Derby for 3-year-olds traveling nine furlongs on the main track.

#6 General a Rod (7-2) has never taken a step back on the speed figure scale and has fired Exacta shots in all four starts. The versatile sort reunites with winning pilot Rosario and can pounce on these 2nd off the shelf. Maker shows a profit in the graded ranks.

#3 Cairo Prince (9-5) skipped the FOY after dominating the G2 Holy Bull Jan. 25. The tactical type is fresh and might be a bit aggressive off the shelf. He is a nose away from a perfect 4-for-4 record and should run well here. He needs Derby points and won't offer much value.

#1 Wildcat Red (3-1) has been part of the Exacta in all six local starts. He is outrunning his sprint oriented pedigree and figures to play catch me if you can from the rail at a speed friendly distance. He attracts Johnny V but has been in some tough battles at the current stand and will regress at some point.

#4 Constitution (4-1) is 2-for-2 but has never faced this type of pace situation. He obviously has talent but is giving away valuable experience and won't offer enough value.

#8 Spot (8-1) is behind the top four on numbers and tries a route for the first time. Zito has had success in this race and his task is not impossible. He could be worth a gamble if his morning line holds up.

#5 East Hall (20-1) could be worth keying in the Trifecta & Superfecta. He likes this oval and was 3rd in the GP Derby and 4th in the FOY. He will be a huge number after flopping in the Tampa Bay Derby.

#2 Matador (15-1) does not have the speed to compete vs. this group at the Gulf.

#7 Allstar (30-1) has tactical speed but is light on numbers and seems overmatched.

The Plays:

$18 to win #6

$6 Exacta Box 3-6 ($12)

.50 cent Trifecta 3-6/ALL/5 ($6)

.20 cent Superfecta 3-6/1-3-4-6-8/1-3-4-6-8/5 ($4.80)
