Patrick Cosgrave

Jockey Pat Cosgrave has been given a 6 month riding ban for improper riding by the Emirates Racing Authority for his ride on Anaerobio in the G1 Jebel Hatta on March 16th. The official findings of the Emirates Racing Authority are as follows: That Pat Cosgrave when riding Anaerobio in the Jebel Hatta passing the 600 meters until approaching the 400 meters looked back to his inside on at least 3 separate occassions and at the turn into the home straight he allowed his mount to shift out approximately three horses thereby allowing his stablemate Vercingetorix a clear inside run. Trainer Mike De Kock and jockey Christophe Soumillon who rode Vercingetorix were also called in to give statesments to the Emirates Racing Authority concerning this matter but neither were found guility of any wrong doing. I gotta say, I don't think there's any doubt that Pat Cosgrave intenionally opened up the rail for Vercingetorix in the Jebel Hatta, but 6 months on the slab seems a bit severe to me when for yours I've watched Aidan send out pacemakers over and over again and watched the jockey's he had riding his pacemakers spend more time looking over their shoulders for who they were setting the pace for instead of looking forward in the race. The same can be said for whoever piloted Bullet Train in nearly all of Frankel's races. I remember Frankel's last race in the Champion Stakes jockey Ian Mongan spent most of that race looking over his shoulder to get instruction on what to do from Tom Queally after Frankel briefly dwelt when the gates opened and was very slow away in the Champion Stakes. Just seems a little excessive to me.
