Breeders' Cup 2017

Older Comments...

I just watched her last race, great run she got a massive check at the 1000 then ran up backsides for another 500 then flew home. Very unlucky probly should have won to be honest.
So, 2019 is when his first crop will debut, which of his foals are you all looking forward to see run? Personally, I'm excited for all of them, but I'm really looking forward to the Untouched Talent(I think that's her name) filly.
The real Arrogate is back. I saw something in his last work that made be a believer. Still.....GR is bringing all his guns and is ready for a big showdown.
The modern manifestation of Cigar's nemesis, Siphon. If this one gets an easy lead, he may just be gone. Horses ON the pace, creating the challenge fractions for the ENTIRE FIELD, control the race. If left alone, they can easily slow down having much in reserve to move later. NOT every horse, even given that exclusive position, cannot do it as it requires an Affirmed type (can go on in routes after setting the pace) to do this. This one qualifies for that description. On the lead, the animal gets the best part of the track, has no kick back to run into, every other animal in the contest has to be subservient to HIS/HER pace....They control everything and the rest of the field is require to REACT TO IT. A powerful advantage that works on just about every main track, everyday. NOT a common ploy on the grass however.
One other question - is there any early speed in the race? Keen Ice did not do badly in the JCGC - lost by a length in a winning time of under 2:01, when Diversify set a leisurely early pace. If Baffert is going to send FOUR horses to the Classic, are they ALL stay off the pace horses? If one of them is a "rabbit" for two or three of the others, is he possibly playing into Keen Ice's hands?
I understand that Baffert is the dominant trainer in America, and it would not raise an eyebrow for him to have two horses in this race. But four? That does NOT seem like a man who has confidence in Arrogate.
Apparently, Gun Runner will retire after the Pegasus, which is understandable, given the economics of racing. Except if you look ahead to the Dubai World Cup, you may be looking at one of the weakest North American group of entries in the history of the event -- no Gun Runner, no Arrogate, no Shaman Ghost, Keen Ice? - maybe, but he's 3 for 23. Even on the distaff side, Stellar Wind and Forever Unbridled will be gone. West Coast and Collected? Somehow, they don't seem worthy as favorites in what I understand will be a $12 million race next year. This might be a great opportunity for a European horse to take a shot at the dirt. Or can Unique Bella get into form for longer races?
Who thinks collected will win the BCC this year? I've just got a hunch he could upset the 2 faves in this one. Proved he likes Del Mar..... I love gunRunner , Gunnevera & KI for my top 3 & fan of all 3 , but Collected is one I just think could steal the BCC.
One other question - if she wins the Cox Plate, would those of you knowledgeable about Aussie racing rank her as the greatest thoroughbred at least of the post-WW2 era?
I know a few years ago, some newspaper got grief for naming Black Caviar as its female athlete of the year. If Winx wins the Cox Plate, do you think any newspapers/magazines/websites will ignore any possible brouhaha and name her as Australia's top athlete for 2017? I don't know much about Australian sports - I assume rugby and Australian rules are the big sports, and it is not an Olympic year - but in your opinion, does she deserve the honor as Australia's athlete of the year? BTW - in 1973, Sport Magazine (no longer in existence) named Secretariat as its athlete of the year - and that was a year in which the (now infamous) OJ Simpson set an American football rushing record.
O’Brien seemed to be in a pinch last few chances with competitive races on soggy turf missed several races now Highland Reel needs one before the BC so the easier 1 1/4 mile against easier for a race. Probably be soft at the Chamion Stakes too. Interesting how he does.
This is by far the most heart wrenching tragedy I've seen in a long time. Rest In Peace Effinex, I will never forget you! Definitely a deserving member of the top class in the best season horse racing has ever seen.
Shelley Blodgett‏ @ShelleyBlodgett 7h7 hours ago We @CaribbeanOTTB r gutted 2 hear UNSTOPPABLE U (8y KY-bred G, Belmont S runner, Maxxam Gold Cup winner), euthanized this am due 2 founder😥💔 That was from twitter. He ended up in Puerto Rico and the next tweet is heartbreaking as well Shelley Blodgett‏ @ShelleyBlodgett 7h7 hours ago Our deepest condolences 2 UU’s breeder, Shawn Mojallali, who wanted 2 give UU a forever home💜 We wish we could have gotten him there😔💔😭 There has been a real concerted effort to get the thoroughbreds out of Puerto Rico after the hurricane. Today 7 arrived in Ocala to begin the next stage of their lives post racing.
Oh no! I Hardest a racing death has hit me in quite awhile. Like with the 2012 gang, I'm always going to be attached to the animals that turned 2015 into a magical year of me. I remember when I said Effinex was the best older horse in the country, jumped off the bandwagon after a clunker and felt like an idiot when he came in second. I'm going to miss you buddy, I mean I already did along with all of your living peers but there's a difference between missing someone you'll never see again and missing someone because they're gone.
RIP. He was a cool and wonky horse. Before Mike Smith became his jockey, I remembered he liked to bore out and head for the middle of the track or the other side of the rail.
Anyone know how many foals he has on the ground and how many mares are bred due to foal in 2018? What consistent times he had when running..
Neolithic worked 4f, Oct 19th, in 48.98(B) finishing 2/14.
Bal a Bali worked 6f, Oct 19th, in 1:13.00 (H) finishing 1/5.
