Rich Strike, surprise winner of last year's Kentucky Derby, continued preparations for his next start on Saturday, working five furlongs in 1:01.0 at Turfway Park.

Trained by Eric Reed, the son of Keen Ice clocked the fourth fastest of 27 works at the distance.

His previous work was seven days ago going five furlongs at Mercury Equine Center. In his last start he placed sixth in the Clark (G1) going 1 1/8 miles on the main track at Churchill Downs on Nov. 25.

Reed told HRN last month that he was considering a trip to the Middle East for Rich Strike if his training goes well.

He mentioned the $12 million Dubai World Cup (G1) on March 25 as a possibility, but added that he could aim the colt toward the $1 million Oaklawn Handicap (G2), a 1 1/8-mile race April 22, if the timetable for an overseas trip proves too ambitious.
