Workouts: 20 graded-stakes winners breeze Thursday, Friday

Pretty Birdie, Nolde and Classier turned in bullet workouts the past two days to highlight the 20 breezes by graded-stakes winners on the Thursday and Friday work tabs across North America.

Pretty Birdie, who has been on the bench for nearly five months, went five furlongs in 1:00.2 at Churchill Downs on Friday for trainer Norm Casse.

Nolde, who could have been claimed for $25,000 from his last race, went 1:00.8 over five-eighths of a mile at Golden Gate Fields on Friday for Steve Sherman.

Classier, who has not raced in more than 10 months, covered a half-mile in 46.8 seconds at Los Alamitos on Thursday for Bob Baffert.

There were at least 20 graded-stakes winners who appeared on work tabs the past two days.

Bullet works

Pretty Birdie (Bird Song), a Grade 3 winner (2021 Schuylerville), worked five furlongs in 1:00.2 at Churchill Downs on Friday morning. It was the fastest of 23 works at the distance. Her previous work was seven days ago going four furlongs at Churchill Downs. In her last start she placed fifth in the Victory Ride (G3) going 6 1/2 furlongs on the main track at Belmont Park on July 9 for Casse.

Nolde (Pioneerof the Nile), a Grade 2 winner (2019 Del Mar Derby), worked five furlongs in 1:00.8 at Golden Gate Fields. It was the fastest of 10 works at the distance. His previous work was seven days ago going five furlongs at Golden Gate Fields. In his last start he placed second in a claiming race going one mile on the turf at Golden Gate Fields on Oct. 21 for Sherman.

Classier (Empire Maker), a Grade 3 winner (2021 Los Alamitos Derby), worked four furlongs in 46.8 seconds at Los Alamitos on Thursday morning. It was the fastest of six works at the distance. His previous work was eight days ago going five furlongs at Los Alamitos. In his last start he placed fifth in an allowance race going one mile on the main track at Santa Anita on Jan. 14 for Baffert.

Friday

Colonel Liam (Liam’s Map), a three-time Grade 1 winner (2022 Pegasus World Cup Turf Invitational, 2021 Turf Classic, 2021 Pegasus World Cup Turf Invitational), worked five furlongs in 1:01.1 at Palm Beach Downs on Friday morning. It was the second fastest of 11 works at the distance. His previous work was seven days ago going four furlongs at Palm Beach Downs. In his last start he placed ninth in GR going 1 1/8 miles on the T at Meydan Racecourse on March 26 for trainer Todd Pletcher.

White Abarrio (Race Day), a Grade 1 winner (2022 Florida Derby), worked four furlongs in 47.7 seconds at Gulfstream Park on Friday morning. It was the fourth fastest of 33 works at the distance. His previous work was seven days ago going five furlongs at Gulfstream Park. In his last start he placed fifth in the Pennsylvania Derby (G1) going 1 1/8 miles on the main track at Parx Racing on Sept. 24 for trainer Saffie Joseph Jr.

Henley’s Joy (Kitten’s Joy), a Grade 1 winner (2019 Belmont Derby Invitational), worked four furlongs in 49.6 seconds at Woodbine on Friday morning. It was the 19th fastest of 56 works at the distance. His previous work was seven days ago going four furlongs at Woodbine. In his last start he placed third in an allowance race going 1 1/16 miles on the turf at Woodbine on Oct. 23 for trainer Mark Casse.

Under the Stars (Pioneerof the Nile), a two-time Grade 2 winner (2022 Summertime Oaks, 2022 Santa Ynez), worked five furlongs in 1:01.2 at Santa Anita on Friday morning. It was the fifth fastest of 32 works at the distance. Her previous work was seven days ago going five furlongs at Santa Anita. In her last start she placed second in the Chillingworth (G3) going 6 1/2 furlongs on the main track at Santa Anita on Oct. 2 for Baffert.

Stilleto Boy (Shackleford), a Grade 2 winner (2022 Californian), worked four furlongs in 49.4 seconds at Golden Gate Fields on Friday morning. It was the ninth fastest of 27 works at the distance. His previous work was six days ago going three furlongs at Golden Gate Fields. In his last start he placed sixth in the Pacific Classic (G1) going 1 1/4 miles on the main track at Del Mar on Sept. 3 for trainer Ed Moger Jr.

This was his first work since his last race. In his last start he placed ninth in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf going one mile on the turf at Keeneland on Nov. 4 for Pletcher.

Dr Post (Quality Road), a two-time Grade 3 winner (2021 Monmouth Cup, 2021 Westchester), worked five furlongs in 1:02.3 at Palm Beach Downs on Friday morning. It was the 10th fastest of 11 works at the distance. His previous work was six days ago going four furlongs at Palm Beach Downs. In his last start he placed seventh in the Clark (G1) going 1 1/8 miles on the main track at Churchill Downs on Nov. 26, 2021, for Pletcher.

Packs a Wahlop (Creative Cause), a two-time Grade 3 winner (2022 Zuma Beach, 2022 Del Mar Juvenile Turf), worked five furlongs in 1:01.6 at Santa Anita on Friday morning. It was the 11th fastest of 32 works at the distance. His previous work was eight days ago going four furlongs at Santa Anita. In his last start he placed eighth in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf going one mile on the turf at Keeneland on November 4 for trainer Jeff Mullins.

English Bee (English Channel), a Grade 3 winner (2019 Commonwealth Derby), worked four furlongs in 49 seconds at Fair Hill on Friday morning. It was the slowest of three works at the distance. In his last start he placed fourth in the Monmouth (G3) going 1 1/8 miles on the turf at Monmouth Park on June 18 for trainer Kelly Breen.

Thursday

Long Range Toddy (Take Charge Indy), a Grade 2 winner (2019 Rebel), worked four furlongs in 48.4 seconds at Churchill Downs on Thursday morning. It was the eighth fastest of 20 works at the distance.
