Last month, when Winx started what conditioner Chris Waller called “pre-training,” he commented that “it's probably the best she's been in the paddock in her career, so that's a good starting point.”

Since then, the Australian mare, her 22-race winning streak still in tact, has returned to full training as Waller eyes a 2018 campaign.

Winx’s connections certainly have options, among them:

1. Remain at home and target the Queen Elizabeth Stakes at Randwick.

2. Take attractive offers to race in Europe, facing new competition.

3. Maintain a light schedule before attempting a fourth Cox Plate.

Winx’s third straight Cox Plate win in her last race, run in October, matched the great Kingston Town, who accomplished the feat from 1980-1982.

A daughter of Street Cry, 6-year-old Winx hasn’t lost since April 11, 2015. Her streak includes 15 Group 1 victories.

“She looks great just like she did when she was last in work,” Waller said. “She’s a very mature racehorse now and she will not look a lot different from preparation to preparation as she is fully grown.”
