Before the Kentucky Derby, Las Vegas casinos offered 13-2 odds that any horse would win the 2023 Triple Crown. Now that Mage is the one horse who can do it, one international bookmaker shortened that plus-650 price. But only slightly.
Costa Rica-based Bovada made last weekend’s Derby winner 6-1, or a plus-600 long shot, to sweep the three classics.
A final breeze Saturday before Preakness 2023.
Bookmakers in Nevada had not yet reopened their Triple Crown markets Sunday. Not since Mage paid off at as long as 17-1 in their fixed-odds pools for the Derby. Mage carried a pari-mutuel price of 15-1 at post time last Saturday.
Unlike Nevada, where props such as the Triple Crown question must carry yes and no options, Bovada did not list a price to lay that Mage would not complete a sweep of the Derby, the Preakness and the Belmont Stakes. In Las Vegas the no price was 1-10, or minus 1,000, before last Saturday.
Caesars Sportsbook, Circa Sports and the Westgate SuperBook are expected to open fixed-odds pools for Preakness 2023 after the race is drawn Monday afternoon. That is when the Triple Crown question may reappear for bettors.
