Rich Strike took another step in his preparation for the Grade 2 Lukas Classic at Churchill Downs.

The 2022 Kentucky Derby winner breezed five furlongs at Churchill Downs for trainer Eric Reed Wednesday. Winless in two starts since the Kentucky Derby – the Travers (G1) last out and the Belmont Stakes before that – he had his first work since the Travers last week at Reed's Mercury Training Center.

Reed told Daily Racing Form's Marty McGee that if all goes well in the Oct. 1 Lukas, the next decision would be whether to point Rich Strike to the Breeders' Cup Classic or await the $750,000 Clark (G1) at Churchill Downs on Nov. 25.
