Royal Ascot’s director of racing, Nick Smith, told the Racing Post in a report posted this weekend that there’s a “very good chance” top Australian mare Winx tests her talent at the English racecourse — and perhaps elsewhere in Europe, too.

According to the Racing Post, tracks in Britain, Ireland and France collaborated on a plan showing options for Winx — a winner of 22 straight races — leading up to a main target at Ascot.

"They are very positive,” Smith said. “If the horse is going well at the right time in March next year then there is a very good chance we will see her in Europe.

“…Everyone has worked together to make life as easy as possible for them and the net result of that now is that they know all the options. Right now it seems the Queen Anne is almost certainly the race they are going to target."

Of course, the next question is, could Winx ever meet Enable, seen as the best filly in Europe? It would mean a cutback in distance for Winx, who normally runs at 1 1/4 miles, but Smith told the Racing Post that would be a “promoter’s dream.”

A 6-year-old by Street Cry, Winx last time out won the Group 1 Cox Plate at Moonee Valley for a record-tying third straight time. Her overall winning streak dates back to May of 2015.
