Super Screener preview: Other Baffert is your Best Pal

Super Screener preview: Other Baffert is your Best Pal

There is a mandatory payout on the Pick 6 on Sunday at Del Mar, but before that sequence begins is a stakes race that commanded Mike Shutty's attention for this weekend's Super Screener.

The Best Pal is one of 10 stakes covered in this weekend's Super Screener, and this week's flavors are turf racing and 2-year-olds, including the all-graded stakes turf Pick 3 on Saturday at Colonial Downs that ends with the Arlington Million (G1) as well as the Fourstardave (G1) at Saratoga.

On Sunday, though, is that Best Pal, and although Baffert holds a formidable hand with 4-5 morning line favorite no. 4 Muth, the uncoupled stablemate no. 5 Prince of Monaco (9-2 ML) offers the better value.

"Prince of Monaco will be 'the other Baffert' horse in the wagering by virtue of earning a lower 'figure' in his debut win, however, the way he won his race earns him stronger consideration as he was very balanced and reserved throughout, and we never saw the best of that colt.

"Note also that Flavien Prat is flying cross country to ride."

Also included in this week's Super Screener is a grid for wagering on the late Pick 4 on Saturday at Colonial. That sequence begins with the aforementioned all-graded stakes turf Pick 3, starting with the Secretariat, continuing with the Grade 1 double of the Beverly D and the Arlington Million, and concluding with an optional claiming event that is race 11 on the 11-race card.
