Super Screener Saturday: Del Mar Handicap caps big day

Super Screener Saturday: Del Mar Handicap caps big day

After going 1 1/4 miles in the Pacific Classic, the penultimate race of 11 on Saturday at Del Mar, why not go 1 3/8 miles to close the show?

And that is just what Del Mar is doing with its late graded-stakes double with the Del Mar Handicap (G2) on turf capping a big card of stakes action. It also caps a big day of stakes analysis for Super Screener with eight stakes on Saturday, including five from Del Mar.

View the video below for even more insight on the Pacific Classic. As for the Del Mar Handicap, a top value play of 6-1 and a top longshot of 50-1 has earned this race a moderate-payoff potential designation.

"Missed the Cut has been pointed to this race, and those dirt preps leading up to it were quite good," Shutty said. "He'll press no. 2 Crosby Beach through soft fractions and will get first jump on the deeper closers. Note his strong wins going 10 furlongs on the turf in Europe. This is just his fourth start of the year, so he should show a very strong move forward in his form cycle."

As for the top long shot, it's not often a 50-1 morning line horse shows up, but so it goes with Win the Day, who returns to Del Mar with good experience on the seaside sod in tow.

"It was against easier company than he'll face today, but he has a proven ability to overcome the challenges associated with steps up in class," Shutty said. "In addition, he's only four, so you can be assured he'll be submitting improved performances over what he logged last year.

"A must use in your wagers at a huge price."
