Super Screener: Play 3 Buena Vista longshots with Vasilika

February 22, 2019 10:30am

Mike Shutty, author of Horse Racing Nation’s Super Screener handicapping system, won’t try to beat heavy favorite Vasilika in Saturday’s Grade 2, $200,000 Buena Vista Stakes.

“Use with conviction,” Shutty says of the former Jerry Hollendorfer claim, who has won 12 of her last 14 starts, including the Megahertz (G3) over this same Santa Anita Park turf course to open her season.

Who you play with the 8-5 morning line shot — and how — are the likely keys to cashing big should the favorite deliver.

Using Shutty's handicapping and data-driven analysis, the Super Screener
analyzes key races run each weekend throughout the year. What's offered here is a small sample of the full product, which this week also includes picks for Gulfstream Park’s Hal’s Hope (G3). https://www.horseracingnation.com/content/Alcoholism_Its_Negative_Impact_To_Sports

Shutty’s next three Buena Vista contenders are all longshots behind Vasilika, who he describes as “the obvious top choice here, as she’ll get the perfect swift and pressured pace setup and leverage her striking balanced energy distribution profile.”

In order of preference...

Take These Chains (12-1): “Very lightly raced 6-year-old has raced just six times and was away from June 2017 to November 2018. Barn ships in from the East, and she poses the biggest threat to California’s best older turf mare star. Use under and defensively on top.”

Fahan Mura (6-1): “This unrestrained pace maker was in over her head as the pace setter in the Pegasus World Cup Turf against the boys and going long on the yielding turf. Returns to the turf course over which she is perfect in the exacta in seven starts going her wheelhouse distance. Hasn’t had a break since early last year, so she won’t run her best, but is good enough to hold on to a piece.”

Zaffinah (12-1): “Another that is always around the money but more often finishes ‘under.’ Was away from June to October and has improved in each race since sporting a progressive form cycle pattern. Will improve again here and offers significant value as a horse to play on the bottom of exotics at a price.”

Shutty's full-field handicapping, suggested tickets and a note on each Buena Vista contender are now available — so consider getting the Super Screener advantage with your bets today.
