With the Pasco Stakes and Gasparilla Stakes for 3-year-olds, Tampa Bay Downs plays host Saturday to a pair of seven-furlong events designed as potential steppingstones to the Kentucky Derby and Kentucky Oaks trails, respectively.
The $125,000 Gasparilla, which is a prep for the Suncoast Stakes on Feb. 12, drew a field of eight sophomore fillies led by 2-1 morning-line favorite Outfoxed for Hall of Famer Bill Mott. In this week's analysis from Super Screener, author Mike Shutty's time-tested handicapping method, Outfoxed with Samy Camacho up is ranked as a "strong win candidate" and "top board hitter.
"(Camacho will) wisely reserve this filly off the swift pace sitting about six lengths off the lead...as they turn for home she'll begin to pick off horses one by one."
If you are looking for a live long shot to use underneath the favorite in exotics, or perhaps even take a win stab at 20-1 on the morning line, Super Screener has the filly just for you. This "Top Long Shot" pick can be forgiven for her debut after an extremely sluggish break on the synthetic at Gulfstream Park, but she perked up nicely in her second start when graduating going a mile on dirt at Gulfstream.
Super Screener says of this long shot," She has been away 60 days but her work pattern leading up to this has ben quite strong. Form cycle analysis is signaling a major move forward...She'll be far back early but will be the swiftest runner late."
In addition to the Gasparilla and Pasco, this week's Super Screener also has in-depth analysis and selections for the Wayward Lass from Tampa, a trio of stakes from Santa Anita as well as suggested late Pick 4 plays at Santa Anita.
