Messier, unraced since January, fired his second consecutive bullet workout Sunday morning at Woodbine.

The 4-year-old son of Empire Maker breezed four furlongs in 46.20 seconds on the synthetic track, fastest of 60 at the distance. In his work before that, he went five furlongs in 1:00.20, the fastest of 34 at the distance.

The Ontario-bred colt was 12th in last year's Kentucky Derby for Tim Yakteen after winning the Robert B. Lewis (G3) and finishing second in the Santa Anita Derby (G1) for Bob Baffert. In his last start, he was fourth in the San Pasqual (G2).

Messier has been working at Woodbine since June, although he was off the tab for most of July, August and September.
