Flashy allowance winner Flightline continued his preparations toward a Grade 1 target with another strong move Sunday.

The 3-year-old Tapit colt went four furlongs handily at Santa Anita in 46.6 seconds, fastest of 22 works at the distance. That follows another bullet four-furlong work six days prior in 47.2 seconds.

“Super works,” trainer John Sadler texted to Horse Racing Nation. He confirmed Flightline is still targeting the Grade 1, $300,000 Malibu Stakes going seven furlongs Dec. 26 at Santa Anita.

A group of Hronis Racing, West Point Thoroughbreds, Summer Wind Equine, Siena Farm, and Woodford Racing campaign Flightline, a $1 million auction purchase as a yearling in 2019.

Flightline debuted April 24 at Santa Anita, romping by 13¼ lengths under jockey Flavien Prat. He was off until a six-furlong allowance race Sept. 5 at Del Mar, where his 12¾-length victory under Prat garnered a 114 Beyer Speed Figure – tied with Baby Yoda for tops this year among 3-year-olds.

Next, Flightline will look to make it 3-for-3 in the Malibu. Other potential candidates for that race include Breeders’ Cup Sprint runner-up Dr. Schivel and trainer Bob Baffert’s Triple Tap, another speedy but lightly raced runner.
