A Pacific Classic winner fired a bullet workout Sunday. But it was not that Pacific Classic winner.

Every move Flightline makes is news since he ran away with this month’s edition of the Grade 1 race at Del Mar. This time it was Tripoli, the first-place finisher in the 2021 Pacific Classic, who had the fastest workout going five furlongs Sunday at Santa Anita, clocked at 1:00.6. The Kitten’s Joy 5-year-old has not won since that victory last summer.

Trainer John Sadler said the Awesome Again (G1), an Oct. 1 qualifier at Santa Anita for the Breeders’ Cup Classic, would be targeted as the next race for Tripoli.
