"Stable Wars Del Mar" a Reality

Fox Sports San Diego will be closely following the Great Friends Stable headed by San Diego TV/radio personality Scott Kaplan and the Little Red Feather Stable of Billy Koch through the meeting with a reality series entitled “Stable Wars Del Mar.”

Camera crews will chronicle the on and off-track escapades of the racing partnership groups headed by the colorful, competitive and racing-committed Kaplan and Koch.

The series debuts on August 8, with six episodes planned and new ones airing biweekly. Little Red Feather has 15 horses set to run at Del Mar, Great Friends 10.

“We’ve got them outnumbered in both quantity and quality,” said Koch. “My goal has always been to try to promote racing and bring more people into the game and if a reality show at a great place like Del Mar does that, then I’m really looking forward to it.”

“For Billy, it’s his fulltime business, for us it’s our summertime fun,” Kaplan said. “It proves our point that you can get into professional sports ownership without spending a ton of money.

“They (Little Red Feather) may have us outnumbered in quantity, but we’ll see about quality. We’ve shown we have a way of making it into the winner’s circle.”

Little Red Feather’s top horse for Del Mar is Egg Drop, runner-up in the Royal Heroine at Hollywood Park and being pointed for the Yellow Ribbon Handicap on Labor Day.

Great Friends has a line on a stakes-caliber runner currently in England.

“Stable Wars” will be the only meeting-long, Del Mar-centric series, but it is far from the only one from which the track will be getting exposure from directors and camera-carrying crews this season.

“The Sheiks of Sunset,” Bravo’s third-year series following a Persian family from Los Angeles, will shoot a day at the races episode on Sunday, July 21.

“Nurse Nation,” a new reality series on MTV, will have its 35-member crew and cast of more than a half-dozen nurses will be filming at a still to be determined date.

“Horseplayers,” an Esquire Network series which has previously followed punters with designs on the National Handicapping Championship tournament early next year in Las Vegas to the Kentucky Derby, Preakness and Belmont Stakes, will focus on a group at Del Mar the weekend of July 27-28.

Additionally, filming may be done on a feature-lenngth project tentatively titled “Aaron Baby Superfecta” at dates still to be determined.
