Sophomore Standouts Best Elder Rivals

Two features of the July 4 holiday weekend were the victories achieved by 3-year-old sprinters Munnings and Zensational, who both captured prestigious graded stakes wins while defeating older horses. On the East Coast, Munnings accounted for the Tom Fool Handicap (gr. II), scoring by 2 1/4 lengths while running seven furlongs in a swift 1:21.08. A few hours later on the West Coast, Zensational led throughout in the Triple Bend Handicap (gr. I) to tally by a length while negotiating seven panels of Hollywood Park’s all-weather track in 1:21.34.
