Smart Bid Heading Back East

Smart Bid who shipped in for Kentucky Derby-winning trainer Graham Motion to finish fourth in the Eddie Read is due to journey back east on Tuesday, said Gary Mandella.

Mandella, a friend of Motion’s, kept an eye on Smart Bid until the conditioner arrived for a one-day stopover on Saturday.

“So Graham has until (Tuesday) to change his mind about keeping Smart Bid here or taking him back east,” Mandella said. “Not much of a window.

“He did mention he might want to bring his 3-year-old filly Summer Soiree out for the Del Mar Oaks. So it might not be the last we’ll see of Graham, but it’s likely the last we’ll see of Smart Bid.”
