Smaller field, shorter prices: See latest Preakness odds

At least one oddsmaker reacted to trainer Brad Cox’s decision to bypass the Preakness Stakes by shortening Kentucky Derby winner Medina Spirit and his Bob Baffert stablemate Concert Tour to less than 2-1.

Bovada, based in Costa Rica, cut Medina Spirit to 5-4 and Concert Tour to 7-4, clearly the shortest-priced choices for the May 15 race at Pimlico in Baltimore.

Midnight Bourbon, the sixth-place Derby finisher whom trainer Steve Asmussen confirmed Thursday as a Preakness Starter, was shortened to 4-1 and was the only other horse not carrying double-digit win odds at Bovada.

Derby runner-up Mandaloun (4-1) and potential pacesetter Caddo River (7-1) were ruled out of the Preakness by Cox, who decided to aim them at different targets the rest of the year. Mandaloun’s long-range goal is the Travers (G1) in August at Saratoga. Caddo River is being pointed to the Matt Winn (G3) late this month at Churchill Downs.

Following are the Bovada futures odds for the Preakness:

  5-4 Medina Spirit

  7-4 Concert Tour

  4-1 Midnight Bourbon

10-1 Crowded Trade

10-1 Rombauer

14-1 Keepmeinmind

20-1 France Go de Ina

25-1 Unbridled Honor

50-1 Ram
