Silver State, Code of Honor work toward Whitney to lead tab

From Del Mar to Saratoga, 14 graded-stakes winners worked on Wednesday, led by a pair of a Whitney (G1) aspirants, Silver State and Code of Honor, as well as division leader Letruska ahead of a projected tilt in the Personal Ensign (G1) at Saratoga. 

Silver State will bring a six-race winning streak into the Whitney for Hall of Fame trainer Steve Asmussen, which includes the Metropolitan Handicap (G1) at Belmont Park most recently. Code of Honor has not started since finishing off the board in January's Pegasus World Cup (G1).

Letruska has emerged as the leader in the older female division after wins in the Houston Ladies Classic (G3), Apple Blossom (G1), Ogden Phipps (G1) and Fleur de Lis (G2) for trainer Fausto Gutierrez.

This is his first work since his last race. In his last start he placed 4th in the Grand Couturier going 1 1/2 miles on the turf at Belmont Park on July 5 for trainer Thomas Albertrani.

Field Pass (Lemon Drop Kid) a two time Grade 3 winner (2020 Transylvania, 2020 Jeff Ruby Steaks) worked 3 furlongs in 36.0 at Belmont Park on Wednesday morning. It was the fastest of 3 works at the distance. His previous work was 10 days ago going 5 furlongs at Saratoga. In his last start he placed 4th in the Wise Dan (G2) going 1 1/16 miles on the turf at Churchill Downs on June 26 for trainer Mike Maker.

Nucky (Ghostzapper) a Grade 1 winner (2019 Del Mar Futurity) worked 3 furlongs in 37.4 at Hollywood Casino At Charles Town Races on Wednesday morning. It was the 4th fastest of 11 works at the distance. His previous work was 22 days ago going 3 furlongs at Hollywood Casino At Charles Town Races. In his last start he placed 7th in an allowance race going 5 1/2 furlongs on the main track at Monmouth Park on May 29 for trainer Steve Asmussen.

As Time Goes By (American Pharoah) a two time Grade 2 winner (2021 Santa Maria, 2021 Santa Margarita) worked 4 furlongs in 48.2 at Del Mar on Wednesday morning. It was the fastest of 27 works at the distance. Her previous work was 5 days ago going 5 furlongs at Del Mar. In her last start she won the Santa Maria (G2) going 1 1/16 miles on the main track at Santa Anita Park on May 22 for trainer Bob Baffert. She is pointed to the $300,000 Clement L. Hirsch (G1) at Del Mar on Aug. 1.

Classier (Empire Maker) a Grade 3 winner (2021 Los Alamitos Derby) worked 4 furlongs in 48.6 at Del Mar on Wednesday morning. It was the 5th fastest of 27 works at the distance. It was the 11th fastest of 16 works at the distance. His previous work was 7 days ago going 3 furlongs at Saratoga. In his last start he placed 5th in the Pegasus World Cup Invitational (G1) going 1 1/8 miles on the main track at Gulfstream Park on Jan. 23 for trainer Shug McGaughey.
