There is a Pick 6 carryover of $95,855 at Santa Anita Park on Friday, and the total pool is expected to exceed $500,000. I'll play a single on the opening leg on a budget-friendly ticket.

My single ticket strategy is based on the degree of difficulty, which I'd measure at 7/10. Three races in the sequence have fields of 11 or more, and the other three races have eight or nine entrants. The payoff could easily exceed $50,000, and I will take an economical stab at a big score.

The sequence, which runs from Races 3-8, starts at 4:29 p.m. ET.

Pick 6 Contenders, Ticket for Friday

Race 3 (MSW, 6.5T)

Pick 6 Contender: #4 Oiseau de Guerre

Analysis: Oiseau de Guerre is my lone single in the sequence. He shipped from New York to Santa Anita and finished second as the chalk in a similar course/distance affair Oct. 29. Three runners from that heat were next out winners.

Race 4 (Alw-1x, CA-bred, 8.5f)

Pick 6 Contenders: #6 Lymebyrd, #1 Closing Time

Analysis: Lymebyrd had his four-race exacta streak snapped as the chalk at Los Al on Dec. 3. He reconnects with his winning rider, Pedroza, and I like the low-profile Pederson barn. Closing Time was up for third in his sprint return at Los Al on Dec. 9, and he graduated in a local route.

Race 5 (Eddie Logan, 8T)

Pick 6 Contenders: #4 Inscom, #7 Pubilius Syrus

Analysis: Inscom tries to rebound after an uncomfortable fifth from an outer post in the Cecil B. DeMille Stakes. He finished a nose behind Pubilius Syrus Sept. 30. Pubilius Syrus was clearly second best in the DeMille, and the winner of that heat, Analyze it, is a very talented runner for Chad Brown.

Race 6 (Mcl-30k, 6f)

Pick 6 Contenders: #8 Wild Edie, #14 Uno Trouble Maker

Analysis: Wild Edie was clearly second best at Del Mar Nov. 26, and it might be cap and gown time. Uno Trouble Maker finished 7th of 12 in her straight maiden debut, and Roman rides the class dropper again.

Race 7 (OC-40k, 6f)

Pick 6 Contenders: #9 Bad Ju Ju, #7 Meet and Greet, #8 Dalsaros

Analysis: Bad Ju Ju drops out of the stakes ranks and likes this course/distance. Meet and Greet is 2-for-2. Dalsaros romped at one mile March 18 and has not been seen since.

Race 8 (Str-Alw, 8T)

Pick 6 Contenders: #6 Pacific Coast Hwy, #2 Red King

Analysis: Pacific Coast Hwy is a first time gelding, and he graduated in a local turf route May 25. Red King rallied to hit the board in his last three turf starts vs. this kind.

Ticket: $2 Pick Six 4/1-6/4-7/8-14/7-8-9/2-6 ($96)
