Tapit Trice went from last to first in the Grade 3 Tampa Bay Derby on Saturday, and he went from zero to 50 in the standings of Kentucky Derby 2023 qualifying points.
The 50 points he earned from the win put him at No. 6 on the leaderboard for trainer Todd Pletcher. The Hall of Fame conditioner also has the No. 1 colt, Forte, who has 90 points.
Classic Car Wash moved to No. 10 with his second-place finish for Mark Casse.
Fountain of Youth (G2) winner Practical Move remains in the second spot, with 60 points, followed by Rebel (G2) winner Confidence Game, with 57 points, and Risen Star (G2) winner Angel of Empire and Gotham (G3) upset winner Raise Cain, both with 54 points.
No Kentucky Derby points races are scheduled for this weekend, but the competition heats up March 25 with the first races that offer 100 points to the winner, the Louisiana Derby (G2) and the Jeff Ruby Steaks (G3). The next day, the Sunland Park Derby (G3) has 50 points available for the winner.
