After a long COVID-related closure, Sunland Park will reopen on New Year's Eve, according to a KVIA.com report.

That means the Sunland Park Derby, offering 50-20-10-5 qualifying points for the Kentucky Derby, will be held after a two-year absence. The date for the race is March 27.

The 55-day meet will run through April 3. Click here to see the complete calendar.

Racing at Sunland was shut down on March 15, 2020, as pandemic closures began. Last winter's meet was scheduled to start on Dec. 26 and finish March 30, but it was canceled by the New Mexico Racing Commission.
