Investec Derby (G1) hero Anthony Van Dyck could conclude his 2019 season with an appearance in the Breeders’ Cup at Santa Anita.

Racing reports that trainer Aidan O’Brien was pleased with Galileo colt’s effort when finishing third behind stablemates Magical and Magic Wand in Saturday’s Qipco Irish Champion Stakes (G1).

“It was great to see him come back that way,” O’Brien told Racing TV. “It was his first run back after a break, so we look forward to him the next day.”

After his impressive victory in the Investec Derby in June, the bay colt finished second in the Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby (G1). He then was a non-factor in the King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes (G1) in July.

“We had it in our head that he would go to the Breeders’ Cup Turf,” O’Brien added. “He’s a lovely moving, good ground horse.

“Obviously he’s in the Arc, but he could go straight there. The lads said they might keep him in training next year, which would be exciting for us.”

Anthony Van Dyck, who runs for Coolmore connections, finished ninth in his first try at the Breeders' Cup in last year's Juvenile Turf. Overall, he has won five of 12 starts, proving best of O'Brien's seven Epsom Derby entries on the day.
