Preakness 2020: Don't leave this horse off your tickets

In this peculiar year, we have the Preakness Stakes running on the first Saturday of October and as the last leg of the Triple Crown. Although we don't have a Triple Crown on the line this year, this Preakness Stakes is shaping up to be a great late-season graded-stakes race with a full field of 11, which makes wagering more interesting as well.

The Top Three

uthentic runs back after winning the Kentucky Derby and makes the case for 3-year-old of the year. Art Collector has dodged the big boys to this point but has shown he belongs and will put Authentic to the test. Lastly, Swiss Skydiver becomes the 55th filly to run in the Preakness and will try to become the sixth one to win it — the last victorious filly being Rachel Alexandra.

The pace was looking so favorable to Authentic before connections of Swiss Skydiver and Ny Traffic decided to enter their charges in this race. With an outside draw, Authentic will have all other speed to his inside and will have to work to get to the lead where he wants to be. Swiss Skydiver is the biggest worry as she drew a cozy post 4 spot, and she will use her superior speed to take the early lead and make Authentic work if he really wants the lead outright.

A Live Long Shot

Of the bomber long shots, there is one horse who will run better than his 20-1 odds: Pneumatic.

This horse scores out on even terms with Swiss Skydiver and Art Collector, but almost nobody is talking about him

He's coming into the race fresh and has improved and moved forward in every start this year. We have not seen his best.

His penultimate work was flashy and signals he is in top form and sitting on a big effort.

Like Art Collector, he'll sit a dream trip off the pace and will just continue to grind on down the stretch. He'll have ample amounts of reserve energy to call on in the final 1/16th of a mile as form cycle analysis suggests another move forward here.
