Fox Hill Farm’s Omaha Beach, un-raced since scratched as the Kentucky Derby favorite earlier this year, is tentatively scheduled to return to Churchill Downs from his Southern California base at 3:30 p.m. ET Tuesday to compete in next Saturday’s Grade 3, $150,000 Ack Ack.

Trained by Hall of Famer
Richard Mandella, Omaha Beach defected from the Derby due to an entrapped epiglottis, an airway issue that required surgery. This Ack Ack will mark the 3-year-old War Front colt’s first start since winning the Arkansas Derby (G1) in mid-April.

Omaha Beach will be stabled in the same space as for the Derby: Barn 28, Stall 15.

The following horses are probable to enter the one-mile
Ack Ack, according to Churchill Downs' Assistant Racing Secretary and Stakes Coordinator Dan Bork: Air Strike (trainer Phil D’Amato); Mr. Darcy (Angel Montano); Mr. Jagermeister(Valerie Lund); Omaha Beach (Mandella); and Thirstforlife (Wes Hawley).

"Going a mile, especially a one-turn mile, just seems like a nice way to come back," Mandella said last month.

Omaha Beach completed the major portion of his training toward the Ack Ack on Friday when working seven furlongs in 1:27.20 at Santa Anita Park.

Entries will be drawn Wednesday for the Ack Ack with Julien Leparoux taking the mount on Omaha Beach. The colt's regular rider, Mike Smith, will remain in California to ride potential Breeders' Cup Classic favorite McKinzie in Santa Anita's Awesome Again Stakes (G1).

Two other stakes will run alongside the Ack Ack on Sept. 28 at Churchill Downs. Probables are...

Grade 3, $250,000 Lukas ClassicBig Dollar Bill (trainer Ian Wilkes); Kukulkan (Fausto Gutierrez); Pioneer Spirit (Brad Cox); Quip (Rodolphe Brisset); Silver Dust (Bret Calhoun); Sir Anthony(Anthony Mitchell); and Timeline (Steve Asmussen).

$125,000 Jefferson Cup: Bundibunan (Ignacio Correas IV); Corruze (Chris Hartman); FarawayKitten (Mike Maker); Hackberry (Dan Blacker); Kid Lemuel (Eddie Kenneally); Scars Are Cool (Stan Hough); Spectacular Gem (Jimmy Baker); and Temple (Maker).
