A field of nine locally-based 2-year-olds will contest Friday night’s $100,000 Clever Trevor Stakes at Remington Park. The field includes four coming off a victory in their most recent race in Oklahoma City.
The Clever Trevor Stakes, at seven furlongs, is the final major prep race at Remington Park for the $300,000 Springboard Mile in December. The Springboard is the richest 2-year-old stakes event of the season at Remington Park.
The local 2-year-old stakes schedule began with the $75,000 Kip Deville Stakes, on the undercard of the Oklahoma Derby, on Sept. 25. Mannford was second that afternoon ( beaten 2-1/2 lengths by Cool Arrow) and will return for his second stakes attempt in Friday’s Clever Trevor.
Owned by L and N Racing of Tulsa, Okla. and trained by National Racing Hall of Famer Steve Asmussen, Mannford posted a final half-mile breeze on Monday morning at Remington Park to ready for the Clever Trevor. The Ohio-bred colt by Ready’s Image went four furlongs in :50.58 seconds over a fast track. Jockey Richard Eramia will guide Mannford for the first time on Friday. Mannford will leave the starting gate from post-position five.
Cu Rahy, third in the Kip Deville Stakes, drew the ninth and outside post position for the Clever Trevor Stakes. Beaten five lengths in the Kip Deville, Cu Rahy has posted four local workouts for trainer Danele Durham, to prepare for his next start. Owned by HFT-Xpress Racing Stables of Aledo, Texas, jockey Glenn Corbett will have the return assignment on Cu Rahy.
Divine Kaleb, Walking In Faith and U S Officer are the only three entered for the Clever Trevor Stakes with more than one career victory to their credit. Each has won twice in their career.
Geovanni Franco will ride Divine Kaleb on Friday night after jockey C.J. McMahon guided him to a 4-1/2 length allowance triumph at Remington Park on Sept. 22. McMahon is competing at Santa Anita Park aboard Oklahoma Derby winner Texas Chrome on Friday in the Grade 1 Las Vegas Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile.
Divine Kaleb holds the highest total earnings of those in the Clever Trevor Stakes, pulling in $46,419 over five career starts.
