Navarro points X Y Jet to defense of Dubai Golden Shaheen title

Trainer Jorge Navarro recently confirmed multiple graded stakes winner X Y Jet will aim for a return to Dubai in defense of the Golden Shaheen (G1), a race he won earlier this year after finishing second in both 2016 and 2018.

Navarro told TVG that the 7-year old Kantharos gelding has returned to training at Gulfstream Park, where he'll prep for the March 28, 2020, race on the Dubai World Cup (G1) undercard.

"Right after the race (this year's Golden Shaheen) we gave him time off then shipped him to Gulfstream Park," Navarro told TVG. "Give him a couple more races then have him ready for Dubai."
Navarro said plans are similar to the training regimen he employed with X Y Jet the last two years.

"Same thing, three races then go back to Dubai," he added.

X Y Jet finished second to Mind Your Biscuits in the 2018 Golden Shaheen as that horse won back-to-back editions of the race. Muarrab edged him out in a 2016 Golden Shaheen thriller. thriller.

In an emotional victory last March for Navarro, X Y Jet broke through to win the six-furlong sprint worth $2 million.

A winner of 12 races in 25 starts, X Y Jet has earned $3,095,513 for owners Rockingham Ranch and Gelfenstein Farm, in the process coming back speedy from multiple knee surgeries that have made for an off-and-on career.

The flashy gray has also been mentioned as a possibility for the inaugural 
inaugural $1.5 million Saudi Cup Sprint run Feb. 29. The Saudi Cup Sprint, at six furlongs, is one of five undercard stakes races that will lead up to the $20 million Saudi Cup.
