Works report: Olympiad, Pizza Bianca gear up for Breeders' Cup

A handful of graded stakes winners being aimed for various Breeders' Cup races recorded timed workouts on Friday, including Classic probable Olympiad, possible Mile starter Pizza Bianca and Sprint or Dirt Mile possible Cody's Wish.

Olympiad, a son of Speightstown and winner of the Jockey Club Gold Cup (G1) in his last start, worked four furlongs in 49.5 seconds at Saratoga on Friday morning. It was the 11th fastest of 25 works at the distance. His previous work was 11 days ago going four furlongs at Saratoga.

Trainer Bill Mott said after the Sept. 3  Jockey Club Gold Cup, run at the Classic distance of 1 1/4 miles, Olympiad was likely to move on to the $6 million Classic on Nov. 5 at Keeneland.

Pizza Bianca is exiting a disappointing eighth-place finish at Royal Ascot in the June 17 Coronation Stakes (G1). 

The winner of last year's Juvenile Fillies Turf worked four furlongs in 49.4 seconds on turf at Belmont Park on Friday morning. It was the 11th fastest of 16 works at the distance. Her previous work was six days ago going four furlongs at Belmont Park. 

Cody's Wish, a 4-year-old son of Curlin who is considered more likely to contest the Sprint than the Dirt Mile, worked four furlongs in 49.3 seconds at Saratoga on Friday morning. It was the ninth fastest of 25 works at the distance. 

Cody's Wish captured the Forego (G1) on Aug. 27 going seven furlongs on the main track at Saratoga on Aug. 27 for Mott.

Several other horses likely to start in Breeders' Cup races also were among the 36 other graded stakes winners who recorded timed workouts on Friday. Here are details on the others:

Channel Maker (English Channel), a four-time Grade 1 winner, worked five furlongs in 1:03.2 at Saratoga on Friday morning. It was the fifth fastest of seven works at the distance. His previous work was seven days ago going five furlongs at Saratoga. In his last start he placed 10th in the Sword Dancer (G1) going 1 1/2 miles on the turf at Saratoga on Aug. 27 for trainer Bill Mott.

Gufo (Declaration of War), a three-time Grade 1 winner (2022 Sword Dancer, 2021 Sword Dancer, 2020 Belmont Derby Invitational), worked four furlongs in 49.4 on turf at Belmont Park on Friday morning. It was the ninth fastest of 16 works at the distance. His previous work was six days ago going four furlongs at Belmont Park. In his last start he placed second in the Kentucky Turf Cup (G2) going 1 1/2 miles on the turf at Kentucky Downs on Sept. 10 for trainer Christophe Clement.

McKulick (GB) (Frankel), a Grade 1 winner (2022 Belmont Oaks Invitational), worked four furlongs in 50.6 seconds on turf at Belmont Park on Friday morning. It was the 15th fastest of 16 works at the distance. This is her first work since her last race. In her last start she won the Jockey Club Oaks Invitational (G3) going 1 3/8 miles on the turf at Belmont At The Big A on Sept. 17 for trainer Chad Brown.

Obligatory (Curlin), a Grade 1 winner (2022 Derby City Distaff), worked five furlongs in 1:01.4 at Saratoga on Friday morning. It was the second fastest of seven works at the distance. Her previous work was 11 days ago going four furlongs at Saratoga. In her last start she placed third in the Ballerina H. (G1) going seven furlongs on the main track at Saratoga on Aug. 28 for trainer Bill Mott.

Kathleen O. (Upstart), a two-time Grade 2 winner (2022 Gulfstream Park Oaks, 2022 Davona Dale), worked four furlongs in 51.0 seconds at Belmont Park on Friday morning. It was the 10th fastest of 15 works at the distance. Her previous work was six days ago going four furlongs at Belmont Park. In her last start she placed fifth in the Kentucky Oaks (G1) going 1 1/8 miles on the main track at Churchill Downs on May 6 for trainer Shug McGaughey.

Public Sector (Kingman), a two-time Grade 2 winner (2021 Hill Prince, 2021 National Museum of Racing Hall of Fame), worked four furlongs in 50.6 seconds on turf at Belmont Park on Friday morning. It was the 15th fastest of 16 works at the distance. His previous work was five days ago going four furlongs at Belmont Park. In his last start he placed third in the Baltimore/Washington International Turf Cup (G3) going one mile on the turf at Pimlico on Sept. 10 for trainer Chad Brown.

Astronaut (Quality Road), a Grade 2 winner (2021 Del Mar H. ), worked four furlongs in 48.8 seconds on turf at Belmont Park on Friday morning. It was the third fastest of 16 works at the distance.
