Knicks Go, Maxfield work towards next engagements

Knicks Go and Maxfield, two of the leading contenders for the Breeders' Cup Classic later in the year, worked towards their next engagements at Saratoga on Friday. 

Maxfield, who was runner-up to Knicks Go in the Aug. 7 Whitney (G1) most recently, drilled four furlongs in 48.3 seconds for trainer Brendan Walsh. It was his first work since the Whitney. The son of Street Sense is slated to have his final Breeders' Cup prep in the Oct. 2 Woodward Stakes (G1) at Belmont Park. 

Knicks Go, who returned to work last week for trainer Brad Cox, breezed four furlongs in 49.0 seconds. He is pointed to the Lukas Classic (G2) at Churchill Downs on Oct. 2.

(Bernardini) a Grade 2 winner (2021 Wood Memorial Presented by Resorts World Casino) worked 4 furlongs in 49.1 at Belmont Park on Friday morning. It was the 22nd fastest of 55 works at the distance. This is his first work since his last race. In his last start he placed 3rd in the West Virginia Derby (G3) going 1 1/8 miles on the main track at Mountaineer Casino Racetrack & Resort on August 7 for trainer Todd Pletcher.

Nucky (Ghostzapper) a Grade 1 winner (2019 Del Mar Futurity) worked 3 furlongs in 39.0 at Hollywood Casino At Charles Town Races on Friday morning. It was the second fastest of 4 works at the distance. This is his first work since his last race.
