Dennis’ Moment retained his No. 1 spot in Horse Racing Nation’s user-generated 2020 Kentucky Derby contender rankings after a stumble at the start cost him the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile.

Tiz the Law, who encountered his own bit of trouble in last Saturday’s Kentucky Jockey Club Stakes (G2), hasn’t received the same benefit of the doubt.

The Barclay Tagg-trained son of Constitution dropped to No. 11 in the latest Monday look at the contender rankings, which are derived from star ratings assigned by HRN readers on 3-year-old colts and geldings.

That’s still one spot better than Silver Prospector, who won the Kentucky Jockey Club. But Tiz the Law, the Champagne Stakes (G1) hero earlier in the fall, held a Top 5 spot going into Saturday’s race at Churchill Downs

Behind Dennis’ Moment, Nashua (G3) winner Independence Hall is second followed by Three Technique, who’s won his last two in New York and could step up to stakes company in the Jan. 1 Jerome Stakes.

Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf winner Structor and Maxfield, sidelined after taking Keeneland’s Breeders’ Futurity (G1), round out the current Top 5.

Another mover this week stemmed from stakes at Gulfstream Park, where Soros, trained by Bodexpress conditioner Gustavo Delgado, won the Smooth Air Stakes to jump to No. 9. Churchill Downs maiden winner Necker Island and allowance winner Sounion also cracked the Top 20, while the $2 million colt Chestertown came in at No. 22 after breaking his maiden Sunday.

Four horses in the current Top 20 will be in action Saturday in the Los Alamitos Futurity (G2). Leading the bunch is No. 7 Honor A. P., a John Shirreffs-trained maiden winner, while No. 13 Eight Rings also flopped in the Juvenile. No. 14 Anneau d’Or was the race runner-up, and Thousand Words, a Bob Baffert debut winner, will step up in the Futurity.

At No. 21, Forza Di Oro is the highest-ranked horse set to compete in Saturday’s Remsen Stakes (G2) at Aqueduct.
