Java's War Catches Palace Malice in Blue Grass

Java's War and jockey Julien Leparoux win the Toyota Blue Grass at Keeneland for owner Charles Fipke and trainer Kenneth McPeek; 04-13-13.
Charles Fipke’s homebred Java’s War overcame a slow start to catch Palace Malice in the final yards to win the 89th running of the $750,000 Toyota Blue Grass Stakes (G1) by a neck before a crowd of 37,161 on a bright Saturday afternoon at Keeneland.

Saturday’s attendance is the second largest in track history, surpassed only by the 40,617 on hand for last year’s Toyota Blue Grass Stakes.

It was trainer Ken McPeek’s second victory in the race, having won the 2002 edition with Harlan’s Holiday. It was the first Toyota Blue Grass victory for jockey Julien Leparoux.

Java’s War, a homebred son of War Pass out of the Rainbow Quest mare Java (GB), completed the 1 1/8 miles in 1:50.27 over the fast main track.

In addition to the $450,000 winner’s check, Java’s War received 100 qualifying points toward the 139th running of the $2 million Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (G1) on May 4 at Churchill Downs. Now with 122 points, Java’s War is guaranteed a spot in the Kentucky Derby starting gate, that is limited to the top 20 point earners that pass the entry box.

Dogwood Stable’s Palace Malice picked up 40 points for running second to boost his total to 50, which should be enough to make the Derby field.

Java’s War improved his career record to 7-3-1-1 and increased his earnings to $672,091.

Favored Rydilluc, breaking from post position 13 under Edgar Prado, and Undrafted jockeyed for the lead the first time past the finish line as Java’s War was last in the field of 14 after walking out of the gate.

After a first quarter-mile in :23.81 from Undrafted, Prado put Rydilluc on the lead and opened a daylight margin with internal fractions of :48.04 and 1:12.76.

Meanwhile, behind Rydilluc, Palace Malice was getting a dream run under Garrett Gomez. Palace Malice slipped inside of a tiring Undrafted and turned into the stretch with a clear shot at Rydilluc. At that juncture, Leparoux had Java’s War moving widest of all and began picking off horses.

Palace Malice finally put Rydilluc away past the eighth pole and just failed to hold off Java’s War. Charming Kitten closed fast to finish third, another neck back.

Java’s War returned mutuels of $11.20, $5.60 and $4. Palace Malice paid $6 and $4.60 with Charming Kitten, ridden by Joe Bravo, returning $11.20 to show.

Rydilluc finished 1¼ lengths back in fourth and was followed in order by Fear the Kitten, Balance the Books, My Name Is Michael, Channel Isle, Dynamic Sky, Uncaptured, Tesseron, West Hills Giant, Undrafted and Footbridge.

Hey rifrafrox; For once try and get your facts straight. Never called you a fraud or even an idiot. Look it up and show me the post. You lose credibility when you constantly say you no longer will respond to Cocoa's post and then you immediately respond AGAIN; even lenghtier than past ones.
Great run JW....U will be a stud on the turf someday
standing ovation NO, just the truth since I fear that will be a difficult thing to find here after the next few posts
I am not a vet, never have been but medicine is medicine and I have many friends on the backstretch who tell me the differences between human and large animal medicine
TV..You forget to add a Vet and Doctor to that list.
??? Are we supposed to be giving you a standing ovation for your credentials?? This is weird. Good night.
Thanks for your reply, Mary. I guess its none of my biz. Its unfortunate this all is transpiring day after day. We're basically a small community(everydayers) thats not representing each other well, and it makes us all look bad. I can see new fans coming on here, and going "ooooKay, I think I'll go back to just reading the racing form, now!" I hope you folks work things out, and god forbid C2 starts to get along w/ everyone. I've read good stuff from all of you, please just keep that simple minus the drama. I'll admit, a few ppl have gotten underneath my skin at times, and my short temper has been ugly - the best thing to do is just go on about your business. Much easier said than done on here, I guess.
TV works for Woodbine, harness and t-bred meeting, is a member of the Canadian Horse Racing Hall of Fame, has been published nationally and appeared on television twice as regard to computer based handicapping. I appear in Perry Leko's great book The Breeder's Cup: Thoroughbed Racoing Greatest Day amongst other places
Ha PP! My head is spinning as well. Have no clue, and that's probably best.
Would someone care to explain what all this bs is about? This went from Rafi v. C2 to Sword v. Mary in like 2 post lol. This is worse than a reality tv show - Its like HRN took over where the Osbournes left off
Sword... You creep me out sometimes with your techy stuff, lol. Have a good one, looking foward to your email.
REVENGE ON WHO????? lol... That's kind of mean, too, Mary. I enjoy your posts, hopefully, one day, you will mine too. And, I will ask again, REVENGE ON WHO???? Cocoa? You? Sword? Tv? WHO????
Ok, now I see... I do want to ask Sword a question, but don't feel comfortable asking it on a public forum. Please don't call me a piece of crap, Mary, it is hurtful. I
Mary, the email isn't about you (since you and sword argue a lot)... Truly, I am sorry, but I honestly don't understand what you ware talking about. Please elaborate and I will try to answer. Honestly. Revenge on who? You? Cocoa?
The email to Sword is not about you, Mary. If that's what you're getting at?
Hey, Sword! I must chat with you, could you give me your email??? I'll explain everything over an email :). @Paddy. Thanks a lot. I agree! (of course)... lol. @Sword: PLEASE GIVE ME YOUR EMAIL, I HAVE TO TALK TO YOU LOL!!!!
Good for your connections. I'm happy for them.
Mary, hope you caught it that one of my earlier post wasn't directed at you.
Ga ga? LOL, Do I get to try out the goods first?
Yah, that's it. I'm tv. That makes sense.
