Add Florent Geroux to the list of high-profile jockeys who have tested positive for COVID-19 over the last week. On Tuesday, Geroux revealed on Twitter that he received test results indicating he has been infected with the coronavirus.
I have tested positive for COVID-19. I’m currently feeling well, quarantined, and looking forward to rejoining the racetrack when I’m cleared. Thank you everyone for the well wishes. Stay safe!— Florent Geroux (@flothejock) July 14, 2020
Geroux rode at Belmont on Saturday, winning once on three mounts for the day. That win was aboard Monomoy Girl in the Grade 2 Ruffian -- her first race against graded stakes company since the pair hit the wire first in the 2018 Breeders’ Cup Distaff at Churchill Downs. On Sunday, Geroux rode a pair of winners from five mounts at Keeneland. He was victorious aboard Eddie Keanneally’s Midnight Lute 3-year-old colt Midnight Joster in a maiden special weight race and in the irons of C Z Rocket, trained by Peter Miller in an allowance optional claiming affair. He joins high-profile jockeys such as Flavian Prat, Luis Saez, Victor Espinoza and Martin Garcia to test positive for COVID-19 recently. Prat had raced at Keeneland on Saturday and was subsequently tested at Del Mar on Sunday before being allowed to ride there. He tested positive and was taken off all of his mounts that day.
