2020 is an abnormal year for most, but even more so for the Ellis Park Derby and Audubon Oaks, which have, for the first time ever, become Kentucky Derby and Oaks prep races. The Ellis Park Derby will earn the winner 50 points, with 20 going to second place, 10 to third and five to fourth.

The Audubon Oaks is less consequential in the points standings, rewarding the winner with 10 points, with 4 to second place, two to third and one to fourth.

Here’s an early look at both fields, which include several graded stakes winners vying to move up the leaderboards ahead of the Kentucky Derby and Kentucky Oaks. $200,000 Ellis Park Derby

The Ellis Park Derby field, going 1 1/8 miles, is highlighted by Art Collector, who won at the distance in his last race, the Grade 1 Blue Grass Stakes at Keeneland his last time out. The son of Bernandini, who is trained by Thomas Drury, sits in fifth place in the Road to the Kentucky Derby Standings.

Also probable for the race is Shared Sense, who won at 1 1/8 miles last time out at the Indiana Derby (G3), pulling ahead in the final furlong in a field that also included Ellis Park Derby probable Necker Island, who finished third. The win was the first in a stakes race for the son of Street Sense, trained by Brad Cox.

For the Audubon Oaks, the probables include Sconsin, trained by Greg Foley, who will be looking for her first stakes win. The daughter of Include will be making her third start at the 7 furlong distance, having finished second in the Beaumont (G3) at Keeneland on July 10, in her last start.

Sconsin looks to be going up against a field that will include Ocean Breeze, a daughter of Curlin who finished third in the 1 1/16 mile Iowa Oaks in her last start on July 5. This will be her first attempt at a 7-furlong race, she broke her maiden on May 25, going 6 1/2 furlongs at Churchill Downs.
