Breeders' Cup 2017

Eng: Zenyatta Will Win Horse of the Year

My first prediction for 2011 is this: Zenyatta will win the Eclipse Award for Horse of the Year. Why? A tsunami of emotion among Eclipse voters is building behind Zenyatta after her heroic loss to Blame in the Breeders' Cup Classic.

This passion was brewing well before the Classic. An influential bloc of Eastern writers wrote they were voting for Zenyatta regardless of the Classic outcome. Part of that is voter remorse from 2009 when the same people voted for Rachel Alexandra over Zenyatta.

The only criteria for Horse of the Year is that the animal has to race once in North America. That's it. I predict voters will turn the Horse of the Year honor into a lifetime achievement award.

Zenyatta snatched victory from the jaws of defeat time and again like a modern-day Silky Sullivan. She embodied all that is good in horse racing during her 19-race unbeaten streak.

I love the sport of horse racing and in my heart Zenyatta deserves HOY but a $38 exacta in a two horse(taken to the depth of my pockets) race. That's the stuff dreams are made of. Of course if Z wins I get less but her running style in a 14 horse field, you got to know somewhere she's going to get snagged. To her credit she overcame it.
To continue my thought after my cat hit the enter button :) My point being, all of these thoroughbreds are phenomenal creatures. What makes Zenyatta special is that she is older then up and coming horses such as Lethal Heat who ran Grade 1 and stakes races in 2009 and Switch who ran a Grade 1 in 2010 as well as numerous Grade 2 races and that she can still beat them. Not many six year old males can continue to perform as she has including Citation. John Henry, of course, was quite an exception who was still winning at 9 years old.
I for one am not mad that Blame won, it was an exciting race. I can certainly recognize and acknowledge when a horse has run an exceptional race whether they win or not. But it is apparent that others cannot. Whether it's Goldikova, Zenyatta, Switch, Lethal Heat, Winning Colors, etc.
They don't give HOY awards to milers. If they did Quality Road would get it.
yeah goldikova does deserve it. everyone is just mad blame won. silly bandwagons.
Well we'll see bob46, Goldikova certainly has a more impressive record than Blame with only one loss out of six in 2010 and she is east of the Mississippi.
Just a thought, I agree a filly should be HOY, she has a great record, not only in 2010 but over her whole career, she has won numerous Grade 1 races, has won a race in the USA the last three years, has beaten numerous Grade 1 winners(unlike you know who), has beaten males in plenty of her wins, has always raced against the best competition(unlike you know who) The choice is so obvious, Goldikova, much more deserving than you know who.
No need to look at her races, I saw them live including her 2009 Breeders Cup Classic win. She is a Grade 1 horse running in Grade 1 races unlike Blame who ran three Grade 1 and one Grade 3 prior to the BC Classic. Shall we discredit him for that Grade 3 race and shall we discredit him for losing to lesser quality horses in the race prior to the Classic? Credit should be giiven where credit is due. As to embodiying all that is good in horse racing during her 19-race unbeaten streak, it was amazing to see the turnout she would bring and the excitement she created.
She did not embody 'all taht is good' in horse racing -- for example, in 2010 dhe never met and won against a group of her peers -- G1 winners. Look at her races.
Another example of one who does not actually read the articale.
Please, Please, Please give Zenyatta HOY, please so these whining creeps will shut the F up!!! These annoying losers don't know jack about horse racing or any competition thet are just a bunch of whining children who wouldn't think of earning anything. Give the stupid horse the stupid award so they can find something else to cry and moan about. No wonder this country is in the dumper.
