Ghaiyyath, under jockey William Buick, ruined two-time Arc de Triomphe winner Enable’s return to the track by taking Sunday’s Group 1 Coral-Eclipse Stakes at Sandown in Esher, England.

At 2-1 odds in U.S. pools, the Godolphin-owned son of Dubawi, led the field of seven horses throughout most of the 1 1/4-mile route for trainer Charlie Appleby. It was his second consecutive Group 1 victory.

Enable, a 6-year-old mare making her first start in 2020, finished second, edging out trainer Aidan O’Brien’s Japan, who settled for third.

Trained by John Gosden, Enable, the 2018 Breeders’ Cup Turf winner at Churchill Downs, went off at 3-5 odds in U.S. pools.

Ghaiyyath now has won eight times in 11 career starts and has won three consecutive tilts, capturing the Dubai Millennium Stakes (G3) at Meydan in February and the Coronation Cup Stakes(G1) at Newmarket last month.

Enable has finished second in back-to-back races, having been thwarted in her attempt to win her third Arc de Triomphe by Waldgeist last October at Longchamp.

She has won 13 of her 16 career starts and has earned over $13 million in purse money.
